First School Based Nursery Opens at St George’s VC Primary School as Part of Trust-Wide Expansion

17th September 2025

The St Cuthbert’s RC Academy Trust has officially opened the first of four planned school-based nurseries, with St George’s VC Academy in Scarborough welcoming its first children last week.

Over the course of the opening two days, the new nursery has received 14 two- and three-year-old children for their initial settling-in sessions. The children have begun exploring the new purpose-built learning environments, both indoors and outdoors and have taken part in some structured learning activities including healthy snack times and group singing.

The establishment of this nursery marks an important milestone in the Trust’s commitment to expanding high-quality early years provision across its schools. By offering dedicated nursery settings, the Trust aims to strengthen early foundations for learning, while providing families with greater access to education within their local communities and wraparound childcare to meet the needs of working parents and carers.

This is the first of four nurseries scheduled to open within the Academy Trust, reflecting its long-term strategy to invest in early childhood development and ensure a smooth transition into primary education and beyond.

Headteacher Andrew Krlic is over the moon with this new facility, “It’s wonderful to open our new nursery provision here in Eastfield. As a school recognised as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, we’re so proud to be able to give our youngest children the very best start to their learning journey. Already they are settling in so well, making friendships and growing in confidence every day. This nursery is a real benefit for families in our community, helping children to flourish from the very beginning.”

Early Years teacher Claire Grayshan added: “The opening of our new nursery setting has been an exciting journey. The children are already developing positive relationships with their teachers, which in turn will form a strong foundation for learning and development. This is a wonderful addition to the before and after school wraparound care we offer to families of the school.”
